TIPS FOR BEING FASTER

BUILD YOUR LEGS:
It is extremely important to develop powerful legs to create maximum acceleration. Power Biking is focusing on drills that build endurance, speed and strength. This will give you the ability to use bigger gears and produce more power that ultimately lets you ride faster with less effort.
TRAIN SMART:
Although almost all of the riding season's bike competitions are during the summer, it is important to be adequately prepared to race before the end of the winter season. Due to the poor road conditions during the winter months (unless you live in a temperate climate) you can replace outdoor training with indoor cross training. A good start for this would be a balanced program of cardiovascular training, indoor stationary bikes, swimming or cross country skiing. I also do a lot of karate, weight training and I love chopping wood. However, be sure to get enough rest during the off season; after all it is possible to get burned out after a hard season of riding. The last thing you want to do would be to lose the race before it even happened!
GEAR UP:
Many people believe that top of the line equipment will make you a "top of the line" rider. This is not necessarily true. It is more important that your equipment fits you comfortably than it is expensive and stylish. Add in the combination of proper fitting equipment, good riding form, good hydration and nutrition -- you're guaranteed to be a faster rider!
A GOOD ATTITUDE:
Being a good athlete is not something that comes naturally to everyone. Some people are born with natural skill while others have to work for it. Hard training can help get you there. It is important to remember to train hard, but most importantly, have fun!
